On this same topic, the Mirror also heard from legal expert Cynthia McFarlane, who advised that, in her view, "it would be inevitable that Dominique Pelicot would face a risk of injury or a risk to his life if he came into contact with prisoners." She explained: "He has committed one of the most heinous crimes, rape. He has abused his wife when in a position of trust, that he has abused and where she was at her most vulnerable, in a drugged state, sleeping. Additional aggravating factors include the number of men involved, all facilitated by him." With this in mind, Ms McFarlane believes the pensioner would be separated from his fellow inmates, "to avoid the risk of his life and for his own personal protection".
